Eight Year 12 Physics students competed in the 2018 Aviation Challenge at Hartlepool FE College on July 4th. Two teams were tasked to design, build and test a glider which then would compete against teams fro around the region. After a rocky start where both initial designs broke upon impact the students worked hard on their final designs making good use of their Physics and Maths skills to help design their gliders. When it came to flying the gliders at the end of the day both teams succeeded in staying in the air and landing intact and they can all be proud of their designs.
The students also had the opportunity to have a tour of the Aeronautical Engineering Departments hanger and a sit in one of the fighter jets their students learn to reassemble and fix.
