The Brilliant Club was launched at Newcastle University on Friday 4th November.
The day began with an overview of the Scholars Programme. Dr Natalie Day provided an insight into: University life, culture and the long term career benefits of getting a degree at Newcastle.
The students were then divided into two tutor study groups. The groups were led through a number of learning activities hosted by Princess Bwanya, a PhD tutor at Newcastle.
This involved a tutorial on literacy theory and a study skills session. Natalie then led the students on a tour of the University campus facilities.
Natalie said, ‘It was great to see you there, and from what I’ve heard from Princess, your pupils worked really hard in their first tutorials which is brilliant to hear!’
Brilliant Club member Matthew said, ‘It as an enjoyable experience and I learned a lot’.
Joshua said, ‘I enjoyed the launch trip and have experienced and seen what it would be like if I attended this University.’
Katie said, ‘I thought it was very informative trip and made me confident about going to University’.
The next step for the Brilliant Club will be to participate in tutorials back at Lord Lawson led by Princess Bwanya.
The learning outcome of the tutorials will be for students to write an essay based on literacy theory.
