Work began on the planning for a complete rebuild of Lord Lawson of Beamish School in December 2002. Students and staff were heavily involved in the design of the new building and work began on site in January 2006. The school took possession of the keys to the new building on 20th August 2007 and a new, exciting term began in September.

The new building has many outstanding features that will both inspire creativity and support learning and high levels of achievement. At the heart of the school is a large 3 storey gallery space which can be viewed from balconies at each level. The main hall has tiered bleacher seating which can seat over 300 people and will be used extensively to host an array of spectacular productions by the school's performing arts groups, and will also be used as a conference venue. The school also has two high quality dance studios, 9 ICT suites, large specialist facilities for Art, Science and Technology, 5 individual social areas with external balconies, a fully functioning hairdressing salon and a plumbing and electrical workshop. These are just some of the features of the new school.

The sports facilities at the new Lord Lawson of Beamish School have been significantly improved boasting a large sports hall with state of the art sprung flooring and acoustic insulation. The sports hall has fabulous basketball and cricket facilities and can be divided into separate training areas. There is a fully equipped gymnasium with trampoline harnesses and a mirrored fitness suite. The changing facilities are impressive and are designed in a split style to accommodate home and away teams for both male and females with cubicle showers for improved privacy.
