Juice Festival

Lord Lawson Y13 Art & Design students became a firm fixture in NewcastleGateshead’s award-winning international young people’s festival when they took their creative streak to the masses.

Branding themselves as “Ink Corporated”, our Y13s headed to Northern Print for 3 days of action-packed print making with the print professionals, covering many specialist techniques such as drypoint, monoprint and etching. During these sessions they produced a fabulous collection of prints from which they had to choose a final selection to form their public exhibition in Gateshead Library Gallery.

Not only did they have the opportunity to experience life in a real working print studio for 3 days, but also worked closely with Gateshead Arts team and Juice Festival staff to plan, promote, and curate the entire exhibition. Students learned invaluable new skills such as how to produce a marketing strategy, how to plan and organise exhibition space, how to write a press release, and working to tight deadlines.

All of our students were an absolute credit to Lord Lawson throughout the process, and their opening preview event in October was a huge success. Every piece of work on display was different from the next and each student’s individual artistic style shone through in a truly professional high quality show. Lord Lawson staff turned out in force to support them and all agreed how impressive the exhibition was, and how lucky the students have been to be involved in such a terrific experience.

Many thanks go to Rachel Adam from Juice Festival, Karolynne Hart and Hannah Mackay from Gateshead Arts, Helen Donley and Anna Wilkinson from Northern Print. We couldn’t have done it without you!
