School Re-Opening
The school will be open as normal tomorrow (Tuesday 12th January) for all staff and students.
Students should arrive at the normal time and we expect all lessons to proceed as usual. Examinations will return to their normal start times of 9 a.m. and 1:35 pm. Students who attend applied learning courses at college or elsewhere will also return to their usual arrangements. Most extra-curricular activities will also return, though students should check with the member of staff organising the activity.
I would like to thank students and parents for their understanding during what have been almost unprecedented severe weather conditions.
I would also like to explain why I took the decision to close the school last week. The school site is in a high position with several steep access roads. Access to the school was not always safe to motorists and pedestrians and there were times when, due to the amount of snow which had fallen, external areas were not safe.
The main problem, however, was that many staff who live in areas even worse affected by the snow, were unable to get to school. We faced a situation where there may be large numbers of students on a potentially unsafe site with very diminished supervision due the unavailability of staff. In the circumstances, I didn’t feel I could guarantee the safety of all students.
I am, of course, very conscious of the importance of maintaining regular tuition and that some students have missed a significant number of lessons. I can assure parents and students that we will do everything we can to make up for those lost lessons in the coming weeks.
