Lord Lawson Of Beamish School Open Evening

We were delighted to host in excess of 400 people to our annual Open Evening on 7th October 2010.  Visitors attended one of two presentations in the main hall given by the Headteacher, David Grigg, who described the school’s approach to personalised learning and shared details of the recent examination successes.  Prospective parents with children currently in year six were advised to apply on time as the school is popular and sometimes oversubscribed.  However, David Grigg pointed out that all parents making a first choice application to the school had been offered a place in recent years and declining numbers of students in the catchment area suggests that this trend will continue in 2011.

Visitors also heard from Elaine Patterson, Transition Teacher, and Lynda Duffie, Home School Liaison Officer, who described the school’s very full transition programme and the summer school for students who are about to join year 7.

Guests heard the Head Girl, Jade Newton, Head Boy Michael Dicks, Deputy Head Girl, Sophie Fenwick, and Deputy Head Boy, Steven Beattie, describe their experiences of Lord Lawson of Beamish School.

All Departments and House Blocks invited visitors to discuss issues with them and there were a large variety of displays and presentations.
