Harry Letch History prize
The annual "Harry Letch" History prize for 2008 was awarded to sixth former Stephanie Carter. The substantial cash prize is awarded annually in memory of local historian Harry Letch by his family who still live locally. Stephanie produces a very personal history of the North East, and in particular of Birtley; she confessed to having learnt a lot about Birtley even though she had lived here all her life. A worthy winner!
