Happy New Year
- A happy New Year from all the staff in Grove, everyone keep up the hard work during the new year.
Week beginning 12th November 2007
- Students enjoyed a smooth transition to the new school and appear to be enjoying the new houseblock and facilities.
- Prefects organised a very successful disco for the yr 6 pupils during transition week.
- Several students from Yrs 9-11 tested their nerves with the demanding Aerial Pursuit course in Yorkshire in September.
- 98 Yr 7 and 8 students enjoyed a fun filled evening at Wet and Wild earlier this month.
- We are currently organising organising our activities for the festive season - a prefects meal, a ten pin AMF bowling evening for Yr 7-11 and a lunchtime party for Grove Yr 7 hosted by their Peer Mentors and the prefects.
- Sam Richardson (Senior Prefect) had a very successful 6 weeks in Canada with his cadets. He represented England in shooting and trained and competed with other cadets from all over the world.
- Jonathan James (Head Boy) has just returned from a week in Malta with his military cadet band. An experienced musician, Jonathan has performed in front of the Queen at Windsor castle. He is currently waiting to see if his application to the Ministry of Defence Sixth Form College to study A levels and Music has been successful. Both Sam and Jonathan have presented assemblies to Grove students to show what the cadets have to offer.
- Kate Richardson (Prefect) and Becky Mason (Deputy Head Girl) have given up their free time on weekends to support Macmillan charity events.
- Over 180 postcards have been sent home congratulating Grove pupils with 100% attendance for the first half term. All pupils with 100% each half term are entered into the houseblock draw. A top Tutor group weekly attendance.
- Students of the week and postcards home for immaculate presentation have entitled students to be entered into the termly prize draw for gift vouchers.
- Pupils are also rewarded by their Tutors termly for their progress and personal achievement as part of Grove tutee of the term awards.
- Helena Wallace Yr 9 has successfully been accepted on the Gateshead / Komatsu exchange programme. She was assisted in her application by Emma Bovingdon (Head Girl) who encouraged Grove students to apply in an assembly outlining her trip. Grove has already had three pupils benefit from this experience in the last two exchange trips.
- Two students have been rewarded with tickets for a Newcastle United football match for their exemplary behaviour and help towards others.
- Our annual Macmillan Coffee morning took place on Friday 28th September 2007 as part of the national 'Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning' This year was a small scale affair based within the houseblock. Pupils sold biscuits, cakes, coffee and tea and organised several raffles. Some students also completed sponsored silences. All in all we raised over £700 in 3 hours which brings our overall total in 9 years to more than £11,000.
- Pupils are currently assembling shoe boxes for the Operation Christmas Child campaign which we support every year. We have sent hundreds of boxes all over the world via Samaritan Purse.
