  • A happy New Year from all the staff in Brookside, everyone keep up the hard work during the new year.

Week beginning 17th November 2007

  • Pupil Gets Legs Waxed In Aid of Charity As part of Brookside’s charitable period Matthew Telford also known as Taz volunteered to get his legs waxed in aid of Cancer Research as 10DK’s charitable event. Before the event he had been pledged £159.80 and since having his legs waxed he has already collected £75.00.The Monumental event took place on Thursday 29th November and he had lots of support from students and staff. Mrs Betts had the chance to pull one of the strips and has said that “It was worth every penny of the donation. Roll on the next event.” He had the support of his entire tutor group and Mrs Kirkpatrick is extremely proud of what he did in aid of charity. Matthew was extremely calm and was looking forward to the event, and even during the event he was enjoying the experience. Matthew said “(quote from Taz)”about the experience. Mrs Kirkpatrick said “there were almost 40 people watching and all of them were well behaved and supportive for Matthew” By Heather Addison 10DK and assistant.

Week beginning 5th November 2007

  • Brookside have begun their charitable period! Each Tutor group is busy organising their own event. They have to each choose a charity to adopt and then a vehicle to raise the money. Already some very
  • inventive and exciting choices have been made and some very challenging targets set by the pupils.
  • Prefects have adopted the Phones4schools charity but will run it on a school wide basis, liaising with other HOH's and Mrs Alder who have all agreed to help support the prefects. The organisation is being co-ordinated by the Head Boy and Girl, Andrew Skeoch and Chelsea Monkhouse. We are expecting a great response from everyone.
  • Jordan Clinch from 7MSN ran the Junior Great North Run and came in with an excellent time. Not only that, but he managed to raise £300 for charity while doing so. As a reward for his efforts he took advantage of the Newcastle United season tickets, taking one of his friends along to see Newcastle United play.
  • Hannah Cassidy in 7MSN took part in the Scottish International Dance Festival, having only danced for two years, she came 4th in the intermediate section, in the slow dance she came 3rd and in the pairs she came 5th. This is a magnificent achievement for someone who has been dancing for such a short time. Hannah is now ready to go to the championship level when she turns 13!
  • Miss Burns has started a chess club for interested pupils. So far the members have enjoyed coaching sessions from Josh Pegman and Josh Lewis. It appears at the moment that Miss Burns is in need of the most coaching as she has yet to win a game!
  • Mr Welch's South Africa trip is currently organising fund raising for the pupils. We all benefit as Mr Welch has negotiated cheap tickets to the Newcastle Falcon matches (see Mr Welch for details) and he is working on a race night to be held in school. Staff, pupils and parents are to be invited. There will be an appearance from a Falcons player, with some signed Falcons merchandise being auctioned off on the night.
