A Cut Above The Rest
Students aged 14-16 from across Tyne and Wear, competed this month to find out who the top hairdressers are, with Lord Lawson student, Stephanie Taylor scooping an award for her hairdressing talents.
The students who are studying hairdressing at schools and colleges across Tyne and Wear, took part in the competition at Northumberland College on 12 April to compete against other 14-16 year olds. Stephanie Taylor who studies hairdressing as part of Gateshead College's partnership with the school was the overall winner and she was thrilled.
"It was a great feeling to win this category," she said. "The competition was hard but it was good to put the skills I have learnt to the test." Stephanie's hair dressing tutor, Ann Duggan was also pleased with Stephanies success, she said: "I'm delighted that Stephanie did so well. She thoroughly deserves her award. The winning hairstyle was entirely Stephanie's idea and shows the level of initiative shown by our students. The cometition is a great opportunity for students to test skills against people who are a similar age and ability, and Stephanie has done extremely well to win two prizes against some talented students. The competition is a fun day, and all the students enjoyed taking part."
Students on the 14-16 Hairdressing Programme study at Gateshead College for one day a week to gain a NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing. The Programme's aim is to prepare students for employment, an apprenticeship, or continue their studies at school or college when they finish school.
