Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy proudly presents CATS
Monday 19th – Friday 23rd March 2018

The Jellicle Moon sprinkled magic over Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy last week as our 50 strong cast performed our Outstanding Production of Andrew LLOYD Webbers CATS The Musical. Throughout the week we performed to our Local Feeder Primary Schools and then a further 4 Sold Out evening performances.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS is a timeless musical, one of the longest running Broadway and West End shows of all time and is based upon T.S Eliot’s collection of poems- Old Possum’s Book of Practical CATS. Throughout the show we meet CATS old and young as they gather on the night of the Jellicle Ball, hoping that Old Deuteronomy (Leader of the Jellicle CATS) will select them to be the CAT reborn into a new life. We loved working on the production all year as the music was joyous, fun and emotive and by show week the rehearsal process had been worthwhile when we were proud to present our version of CATS to you.

During the week of performances many students made their debut Lord Lawson performances and Year 13 performed for the final time. Miss Race, Mrs Hall and I are extremely proud of you all and know that you made a MEMORY of a lifetime performing the production. Thank you to all cast members for your hard work, dedication and professionalism on and off stage- you were incredible.
Many of our year 13 students are going onto train in full time vocational Performing Arts and Media courses in September. Some have secured places at London’s most prestigious institutes of Performing Arts Laine Theatre Arts, Urdang Academy and Performers College. This is due to their outstanding contribution to their Arts training and what a final Lord Lawson showcase CATS was for you. You really did yourselves proud and showed everyone exactly what you are capable of. We wish you the best of luck for September and we are so excited to see your future professional performances.

Personally I would like to say a huge thank you to our small CATS Team- Co Creative Directors- Mrs Hall and Miss Race for making the production a reality and Mr Warden from Hi-lights and his team for bringing our creative ideas to life.
Finally we would like to thank our audience for your constant support towards the Performing Arts Department and our students. We have all been over whelmed by the lovely reaction CATS and we are so pleased that you loved the show as much as we did.
