Today our students took to the polls to decide whether or not Britain should remain in the European Union. During tutor time students have been learning about the key issues surrounding the EU debate and the arguments for or against leaving in order to allow every individual to make an informed decision.

As has been the cause in wider society, the remain or leave decision has caused a lot of debate and discussion amongst students and staff and it has been fantastic to see the students so enthusiastic about their beliefs.

The polls have now closed and the votes have all been counted and verified. The community of Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy have decided that they would like to REMAIN in the European Union with 66% voting to stay. It will be interesting to see whether this is replicated in the national referendum!
