On Friday the 30th of June a team of Business students from year 12 and 13 travelled to Birmingham to attend the prestigious ICAEW BASE competition final. 500 schools from across the UK entered the competition this year with only 46 reaching the final. Competition was tough with all teams fiercely competing to take the number one spot of BASE champion 2017. The team of students worked under timed conditions with support from a professional mentor to prepare a professional presentation to a board of highly respected judges from a range of global businesses.

Judges included the finance manager of Rolls Royce plc and the finance director for ITV. The task allowed students to develop their communication, team work, decision making and problem solving skills. Student’s resilient approach to the task enabled them to develop detailed analysis within their presentation which impressed the judges. The day also provided students the opportunity to meet employers and learn about a variety of careers within the accountancy and business sector. The competition proved to be a great experience for all students involved. The professional mentor who helped guide the students throughout their preparation was extremely impressed with the students from the Academy. The mentor commented on student’s mature approach, team work and depth of knowledge that students displayed throughout the day.
