Our curriculum

The courses outlined in this prospectus and on the curriculum are designed to meet the needs of all pupils, regardless of ability. A number of vocational courses are offered alongside the more traditional subjects.

One to one tutor meetings

At LLOB your tutor will meet with you every half term to help you achieve your full potential. They will help you to think about your goals, set targets to enable you to reach those goals and track your progress. Being a sixth form pupil is about being an independent learner and being able to self-evaluate, which means recognising your strengths and weaknesses and taking responsibility for your own learning. Your tutor will have a clear overview of your academic and personal development whilst at college and will support you along your journey to success.

One to one Connexions meetings

At LLOB there is careers advice from our local Connexions service. Connexions offer confidential advice and support services for our sixth formers. Appointments are available for every pupil and the advice given ranges from apprenticeships and employment to training and higher education.

Sixth Form Studies

This is a timetabled lesson which offers support including assistance with study skills, time management, organising your files, revision techniques, researching and options after LLOB.

Counselling Service

In addition to your tutor all pupils can be referred to a confidential counselling service.

Financial Support

If you think that you may struggle with the associated costs of attending college, you may be eligible to receive financial support through the 16-19 Bursary. The pupils most in need of financial support will be eligible to receive a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:
• Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance
• Young people in care
• Care leavers
• Young people in receipt of income support
Other pupils facing genuine financial difficulties can apply for the Discretionary Bursary Fund (DBF). The DBF can support pupils with travel costs, equipment, books and other course-related costs.

As well as a purpose-built academy we also have our very own purpose-built Independent Learning Centre (ILC) for personal study in addition to the common room for social time.
