Portobello Primary School
Portobello Primary School has 197 pupils, and ages range from 4-11 years. It is based in a housing estate situated in Birtley within County Durham. It was found to have above average results in KS 1 & 2 English, especially within reading, during a recent OfSTED report. School newspapers aid in the development of English skills. The school has a good relationship between the staff and pupils, which brings out the best in its students. This is shown through the pupils’ successes and achievements. A sharing and caring attitude of the staff is shown through everyday teaching. Alongside this is a committed working environment from the staff. The school is known as supportive and for its good relationship with parents and the community.
Children take pride in their school, which is shown through buddies systems in the playground and within the school council system giving the students a voice to communicate their thought and emotions. Enthusiasm and understanding is shown throughout the school in many areas. One of the passions of the school is Art, led and encouraged by the Head teacher.
Portobello School has a wide range of activities including several sports such as Sports Club KS2 Athletics, Rugby, Football, and Cricket. It works alongside Lord Lawson of Beamish School with Dance Activities and Basketball, and also arts clubs. There are a wide range of educational visits linked to a creative curriculum, such as Beamish, Seven Stories, Segedunum and Ford Castle to name but a few.
