Barley Mow Primary School
The primary school is situated in Birtley within County Durham where it is one of five primary schools in the area. Its key area of focus is looking after the individual students needs. “Pupils’ personal development, including their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, is good.” This is a quote from their OfSTED reports.
Committed and enthusiastic staff members at the school enable and encourage students in their daily progress through each stage at the primary school. Pupils, staff and parents in partnership are assisting in an ever-changing environment and developing for the future generations. Putting children first is essential in a school environment. Their nursery has an outstanding facility and is always fully booked for the start of each year.
A caring attitude from the school supports the children in developing their interests in and outside the normal classroom environment with extra activities including sports such as in-house coaching of football, skipping, gym, dance and keep fit, which is of high interest at Barley Mow. Other activities consist of cookery and performing arts.
Regular newsletters are an essential part of school life informing students and parents of the latest events and activities within our school. A laptop system is now in place giving the opportunity to students to have their own laptop and pay a nominal fee of just 50p per week to pay for the equipment. Raising money for charities including Comic Relief (Red Nose Day) is an area that Barley Mow is keen to continue.
A Healthy Eating Award was given to Barley Mow. Alongside our curriculum the school has strong links with the community, for example we have links to Lord Lawson of Beamish School, Birtley Children’s Centre, which is situated next door to the school, St John’s Church, Birtley Partnership and business partnerships including Car Craft, Dobbies and Mulberry Bush Nursery.
