Life Skills programme year 11

In year 11 we concentrate on preparing students for when they leave school. We prepare a CV, write letters of application for jobs and watch videos about going for interviews. There is some work on the economy included in the programme as well as health education revision. We revise some of the work from Key Stage 3 on human rights and spend time looking at national, European and global issues such as discrimination, crime and law. Some students have one lesson per week of Life Skills and in the other lesson they gain and additional qualification in Art, ICT or RE. All other classes have two lessons per week of Life Skills and complete extra work on the Citizenship units of human rights, crime and law.

In year 10 there is a focus on preparing for work experience which takes place in the last week of the summer term. Classes also learn about consumer rights, the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body as well as how to control stress. Some work is completed on the role of the media and on the theme of business and enterprise. The role of Europe is also discussed as well as contemporary global issues. Work experience preparation involves health and safety as well as the rights an responsibilities in the work place.
