Examination Board- OCR.
2009 sees the beginning of a new syllabus/specification. It`s an exciting syllabus, packed with fascinating examinations of human behaviour. There are traditional topics, which are the essential foundation of Psychology, such as Memory, Perception, Attachment, Obedience, Aggression... but there are also topics which intrigue us:-Criminal Behaviour, Body Language, Phobias... and there are “everyday” practical applications:- advertising, nursery day-care, memory aids, counselling.
Psychology is a science subject. It isn`t a “general discussion” of TV crime programmes or people`s dreams... it`s a demanding academic subject, and students need to grapple with some intricate theory and language, as well as gaining quite a comprehensive knowledge of research methods. It`s a fascinating subject, but it demands application.
There are three examination modules ( one of them, worth 20%, focused on research methods), and students will definitely be entered for two modules in the summer of Year 10... so there`s no coasting along in Year 10:- it`s down to business right from the start.
