Year 10 History
Starting in September 2009, the GCSE History course at Lord Lawson of Beamish School is changing dramatically as part of the new GCSE requirements nationally. We have decided to remain with the AQA examination board, but the History Department have selected a syllabus which we believe to be more engaging for students and offers them the best opportunity to achieve their academic potential.

All the History teachers welcome and see the vital role that effective communication with parents/guardians/carers can have on the learning of students. If you have any questions or queries regarding your child’s progress in GCSE History please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher either via email or by telephone (0191 433 4026). Alternatively, you can contact Miss S. Martin (Subject Leader for History) on the number above or via email smartin@lordlawson.org.uk .
Our Expectations
1.) Regular and punctual attendance to lessons. If a student is absent we expect them to come
and ask for the work they have missed and to catch up promptly.
2.) Homework is normally set weekly and is expected to be handed in on the date due. Students should seek help prior to the deadline if this is required. Please ask to see your child’s homework diary and check that they have completed their History homework. Failure to hand in GCSE History homework could result in an after school detention being issued.
3.) 100% effort in class and to complete work set to the best of their ability.
4.) Arrive to lessons equipped with their folder, exercise book and pen, pencil and ruler.
5.) Maintain an organised folder of work. Please ask to see your child’s folder regularly. An organised folder will help them with their revision.
