Bike It Week
Dear Cyclists,
This year for the first time Lord Lawson has been specially selected to become a Bike It school. Bike It is a National Project led by cycling charity Sustrans working in conjunction with Gateshead Council. At Lord Lawson we will be running a number of activities and incentives to get our children riding to school.
We are encouraging children to cycle so that the children can enjoy the many benefits of cycling, including regular exercise, helping the environment and also helping to reduce traffic congestion. This year the children will be doing activities such as cycle coaching, bike rides, Bike It breakfasts and many more….and they will also have the chance to win a brand new bike!
On Friday 9th October we will be running a Bike It Breakfast and a Dr Bike session at school. The breakfast will entitle any child that rides to school to a breakfast voucher to be used in the school canteen between 8.00 - 8.40. In addition to the breakfast the Dr.Bike session will enable bike checks and repairs for the children’s bikes. We will be asking for a donation of £1 for the Dr Bike session to support further cycling initiatives in school. All you need to do is bring your bike to school and we will check them over. If there is a specific problem please can you attach a note to the bike with the nature of the problem so we can check it.
In July next year we have arranged for 3 x World Champion Ben Slinger and European Champion Danny Butler to come to school to put on a demonstration of their bike skills. Ben and Danny are two of the best riders in the World and if you’d like to see a little of what they do then you can visit their website at:
